Must Have Vitamins For Strong Immune System
We, at Regenerative Medicine, strongly advocate the importance of boosting your immune system, especially using specific vitamins, nutrients, and minerals. We will be talking about a couple key ones that we recommend you keep in your cabinet.
Vitamin C is the most well known vitamin that has been used for years to help fight common colds and viruses. Vitamin C is essential to the human body and plays a significant role in reducing inflammation and boosting your immune system. Most people don’t know that Vitamin C isn’t actually made by your body, but is one of the biggest immune boosters of the vitamin world. Foods rich in Vitamin C include oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, strawberries, bell peppers, spinach, kale and broccoli. Daily intake of Vitamin C is vital for good health. The good news is that Vitamin C is in so many foods that most people don’t need to take a vitamin supplement except in cases when there is a large outbreak of a contagious disease or virus such as COVID-19.
Vitamin B6 is vital to supporting biochemical reactions in the immune system. Vitamin B6-rich foods include chicken and cold water fish such as salmon and tuna. Vitamin B6 also is found in green vegetables and in chickpeas so those vegetarian or vegan can also get Vitamin B6 from a healthy food source.
Vitamin E is considered to be a powerful antioxidant that helps your body fight off infection. Almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts and sunflower seeds are all high in Vitamin E, so are spinach and broccoli if you prefer to increase your intake through your greens and meals rather than snacks. Vitamin B6 is critical in regulating chemical reactions in your body which maintain your immune system and how it functions.
For Vitamin A, think colors…foods that are high in colorful compounds called carotenoids like carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cantaloupe and squash, are all perfect options. The body turns these carotenoids into Vitamin A, and they also have an antioxidant effect to help strengthen the immune system against infection and disease.
We strongly advocate getting your vitamins through balanced meals and snacks but there are exceptions.
Vitamin D is one of those exceptions. You can increase your intake through foods such as fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna and sardines as well as fortified foods like milk, orange juice and some cereals. Also, sun exposure is a great way to get Vitamin D. If you’re able to spend some time outside in the sunshine for 10-15 minutes per day, that will increase your Vitamin D levels. Many people have a hard time absorbing Vitamin D from food or are unable to be in the sun, so if you feel like you are lacking in Vitamin D, we would recommend Vitamin D supplements.
Zinc is a mineral that has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body and slow down the immune response which will help control infections that your body might be exposed to. This is why you see so many companies like Cold-eeze and Airborne turning to the natural vitamins and minerals that are high in everything we just mentioned to help ward off colds and illnesses.
Staying hydrated can boost your immune health as well. Water helps carry white blood cells and other immune boosting cells through your entire body. Try to avoid dehydrating drinks like coffee and soda. You can also try to incorporate more hydrated foods, such as cucumbers, celery or watermelon into your diet.
BUT, when all these very basic recommendations don’t work, we also offer Exosome IV infusions to bring the next level of immune boosting therapies. We’re sure you’re thinking, “What are Exosomes?” “How do they work?” “How effective is this therapy?” Reading further will answer all your questions.
Exosomes are tiny packages that contain critical information used by cells to communicate with each other on how to accelerate growth and/or reprogram other cells in the body. They also play a role in transporting important molecules such as proteins, lipids, DNA, and RNA. They also have the ability to alter the function of specific targeted cells. With that being said, exosome therapy can be used to send out very particular repair messages to other cells in the body. This can renew cells in the body that might be infected or diseased. Immune modulation is the approach we use which reestablishes foundational body systems and functions. This includes establishing a healthy immune response by balancing the immune cells and sensitizing the immune system to pathogens, including the coronavirus. The direct immune response from the body can be enhanced through this type of therapy. There are numerous clinical trials going on right now testing the efficacy of exosomes on different health issues. Research has indicated that exosomes have the potential to help stroke patients and those suffering from other neurological disorders such as TBI and autism. Exosomes are involved in many aspects of normal brain physiology and facilitate communication between brain cells. They may help regulate other processes within the body as well. Research shows patients with Lyme disease, chronic inflammation, autoimmune disease and other chronic degenerative diseases may benefit from adding in exosome therapy to their treatment plans. Exosome therapy may essentially jump-starts the regenerative healing process in your body, which is why it can be used as an anti-aging therapy option as well. In our office, exosomes are administered as an IV infusion. If you are choosing this therapy as part of a wellness option it is administered through IV infusion. The dosing is individualized to every patient. We also frequently combine this therapy with acoustic sound wave therapy or platelet rich plasma injections to increase the benefit.
During this crisis, we truly believe Regenerative Medicine can help people not only in wellness therapy, but in preventative measures as well. Supporting various cellular functions in your body is vital to an adaptive immune system. Whether it is with vitamin therapy, vitamin IV infusions, exosome IV infusions, or stem cell therapy regenerative medicine, they are all options to consider. It is a safe alternative that does not require harsh medications or invasive surgeries and has changed the lives of so many of our patients.
